Jonah Hill and other celebs who penned open letters

Open letters have proven to be a powerful way to get a message out there, and many celebrities have started penning them as a vehicle for change, revelation, or to combat the tabloids. Jonah Hill is the most recent celebrity to use an open letter to share an important decision he has made. Hill recently revealed that his ongoing struggles with anxiety are worsened by the media circus and public appearances involved in promoting a new film. In an effort to be true to himself and work on his mental health, he will no longer promote his movies. Hill's latest project, a documentary called 'Stutz,' features the actor and his therapist as they explore mental health and therapy. In his open letter, Hill wrote, "The whole purpose of making this film is to give therapy and the tools I’ve learned in therapy to a wide audience for private use through an entertaining film." Hill goes on to explain his decision to avoid publicity events: "I have come to the understanding that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public facing events." He continues, "If I made myself sicker by going out there and promoting it, I wouldn’t be acting true to myself or to the film." Hill concluded that he hopes the work will speak for itself and thanked his fans for their understanding and support. Click through this gallery to read up on more open letters from the stars.

Celebs who kept their serious illnesses a secret

Even though celebrities spend their lives in the spotlight, many choose to keep life-changing events such as diagnoses from the public. The premature death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020 came as a huge shock as he continued to work into the late stages of his illness, and many of his colleagues didn't even know he was living with terminal cancer. His private battle is just one of many examples of high-profile figures who kept serious medical conditions a secret. In recent years, more celebrities are finding strength in sharing their diagnoses and experiences with the world, sometimes long after the fact. Kid Cudi recently opened up about his personal health struggles in an interview with Esquire. The rapper was struggling with severe depression in 2016 and decided to check himself into a rehab facility for his own safety. At the time, he wrote on Facebook, "If I didn't come here, I would've done something to myself." He explained that "anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it." While trying to regain his mental health, his physical health took a serious blow. Cudi suffered a serious stroke while in rehab which impacted his ability to speak and move, requiring months of physical therapy. The following year, Cudi auditioned for a role in the Broadway musical 'Lobby Hero' and finally felt like he'd recovered from the stroke. The fact that he successfully memorized all of his lines and completed the audition proved that he was capable again. "I needed that at the time. I was happy. Like, damn, my brain is still strong. I didn't lose something in that sh--t that happened." Check out this gallery to find out which other celebs kept their serious illnesses a secret.

Off-screen rivalries: Actors who hate their co-stars

Where chemistry between characters is great on-screen, it's easy to believe that the same is true for the actors in real life. Sadly, this is not always so. Whether the relationship is doomed from the start or the many hours spent together on set finally drive the actors apart, co-stars who hate each other are much more common than you'd think. The creators of 'Superbad' recently revealed that actors Jonah Hill and Christopher Mintz-Plasse did not get along when they co-starred in the 2007 comedy. Hill had already been cast in the lead role and was brought in to do scenes with actors auditioning for the role of McLovin. As writer Seth Rogen remembers it, when Mintz-Plasse auditioned, “Jonah immediately hated him.” Producer Judd Apatow recalled that Mintz-Plasse was “very caustic and attacked Jonah and did improvs insulting Jonah.” Hill told producers that he didn't like him and didn't want to work with him. Apatow reportedly responded, "That’s exactly why we’re hiring him. It couldn’t be more perfect. The fact that it bothers you is exactly what we want." Hill's character is perpetually irritated by the over-confident, nerdy McLovin, and their chemistry certainly went a long way in turning the comedy into a classic. Check out this gallery to find out which other co-stars can no longer stand each other.

Celebs who've gotten into (physical) fights with each other

Sometimes tensions run high in Hollywood and the end result is not the prettiest. It is true that many stars have gotten into bar brawls, but did you know that many have also gotten into fistfights with fellow celebs? Maybe some of these famous faces have a low tolerance for frustration, get angry easily, or maybe they just have really big egos. Whatever the case, the truth is that many stars have escalated arguments and gotten physical with each other. Andrew Taggart, one half of the electronic duo known as The Chainsmokers, was perfectly open about a tense encounter he had with rapper T.I. at a nightclub. Taggart and his bandmate, Alexander Pall, took to TikTok to recount the incident with a surprising degree of good humor! Taggart admitted that he had been hanging out with T.I. in a club and got carried away, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Apparently, it wasn't well received, as T.I. punched Taggart in the face. Taggart laughed telling the story and declared that he deserved exactly what he got. It seems that T.I. and The Chainsmokers are still on good terms as the rapper invited the pair to appear on his podcast to laugh about the incident. Browse through the following gallery and get to know which celebs got into physical altercations with each other why.

Disturbingly dark tales from Irish mythology

The Irish have a long history of storytelling, with seanchaí ("storytellers") traveling from village to village spreading ancient tales of brave warriors, terrifying creatures, and awful misfortune. Partly thanks to this cultural practice, many stories from ancient Ireland have survived to this day, and are still told around campfires and in pubs on stormy nights. In fact, most Irish children who grew up hearing these stories from their less sympathetic relatives and teachers will remember them as a source of nightmares! From shrieking banshees that herald the death of a loved one, to demons that lurk beneath the surface of Ireland's lakes, there are plenty of stories that would give even the hardiest readers nightmares for a week.
